Medicare is one of the most complex health systems to understand because there are rules, regulations, deadlines, penalties, compliance and other things that make it nearly impossible for the average consumer to comprehend.
As a licensed health insurance broker in St. Louis for over 25 years, John Droege can help you navigate through your Medicare options to determine what the best route is for you to take when it comes to your Medicare health coverage. John is certified with all the top rated carriers that are approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) – the branch of government that regulates Medicare plans.
These are the Medicare enrollment periods that most likely apply to you:
ICEP (Initial Coverage Election Period) – When you’re first eligible for Medicare, you have a 7-month Initial Enrollment Period to sign up for Part A and/or Part B. If you’re eligible for Medicare when you turn 65, you can sign up during the 7-month period that:
- Begins 3 months before the month you turn 65
- Includes the month you turn 65
- Ends 3 months after the month you turn 65
This is your opportunity to make your first selection of Medicare health plans – whether it’s a Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement Plan, Medicare Advantage with a Part D Plan, or a plan that compliments Veteran’s coverage.
AEP (Annual Election Period) – occurs October 15 – December 7 each year. During AEP you have the ability to review most types of Medicare coverage options for the coming year and make changes if necessary.
SEP (Special Election Period) – You can make changes to your Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription drug coverage when certain events happen in your life, like if you move or you lose other insurance coverage. These chances to make changes are called Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs). Rules about when you can make changes and the type of changes you can make are different for each SEP.
